What Is The Food Safety For Non-Catering Healthcare Staff E-Learning Course?
This course aims to provide the knowledge required for non- catering staff to safely handle food for patients and residents. The course provides a basic understanding of food safety hazards in a healthcare environment (including listeriosis and food allergens) and associated safe controls.
It is a legal requirement that food handlers are trained, instructed and supervised at a level commensurate with their work activity. Even though the provision of food may not be the main job of non-catering staff, it is still an important part of their role and the law still applies.
The NHS Food Review also highlights the need for food safety training for non-catering staff across a variety of job roles and levels to ensure food provision to patients and residents is safe.
This training will help fulfil the need for effective training, both in terms of legal requirement and realising the recommendations of the Review.
To keep food safe, it is important that all healthcare staff, across all department and disciplines, work together and play their part safely.
Who Is This Course For?
Those working in healthcare organisations, such as hospitals and care homes, with an involvement in food provision to patients/residents, but who are not part of the catering team. This includes, for example nursing staff, dietitians/nutritionists, ward hostesses, care assistants, domestics and volunteers.
N.B. This course is not suitable for those involved with preparation of open, high risk foods, where a different level of training is required.
How long does this course take?
The duration of the course depends on the individual learner. At the end of the course, there is a short multiple-choice test to check understanding of some of the most important aspects of the training. Upon successful completion of the test, a training certificate will be available.
